Meet local author Ross Garcia, a career naval diver of 26 years!

“A Navy Master’s Adventure is a memoir. Navy Master Chief Master Diver Ross Garcia shares his deep-sea
stories from his 26-year career as a Navy diver. The book is really about the men and women he served
with throughout that journey. He describes the core values that motivate Sailors to push themselves into
becoming “Iron Men and Women,” seen through the example of the Navy leaders that Master Diver Garcia
views as true Iron Men. He served on one of the last Cold War-era Navy ships, the USS Reclaimer (ARS-
42). The work was hard, but life was simple aboard the USS Reclaimer in the early 1990s. He also
explains his perspective on the social changes he witnessed during his time in the Navy. Master Diver
Garcia logged thousands of hours of bottom time in oceans around the world, salvaging high-value
objects, clearing harbors, repairing U.S. Navy ships and submarines, and helping maintain submarine
rescue capabilities for fellow submariners. Ross was the Command Master Chief and Master Diver at
Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit Two, where he led his unit through the recovery of victims and harbor
clearance efforts following the collapse of the Interstate Highway Bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota.”
